MS Dynamics in ERP tech land grab

Splashes out on four companies to beef up platform

Microsoft plans to fold four new technologies into its Dynamics AX resource planning software platform, after acquiring a quartet of small companies.

The vendor announced yesterday it had bought a handful of "industry solutions" that it said would bulk out its MS Dynamics AX product that's aimed at the enterprise market.

Microsoft did not reveal how much cash it had splurged on its ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) shopping spree.

The firm said it had bought process manufacturing software from Fullscope Inc, professional service tech from Computer Generated Solutions and retail software from LS Retail EHF and To-Increase Denmark A/S.

“With these acquisitions we are investing in building industry functionality directly into the Microsoft Dynamics AX application, while other ERP vendors are cutting corners or trying to reconcile multiple industry offerings as a result of acquiring several companies,” said Microsoft Dynamics ERP general manager Crispin Read.

“We are a safe haven for customers and partners who depend on us to drive continuous innovation in our products and lower the total cost of ownership.”

Microsoft hasn't made the entire new line-up of tech available yet, however.

It said the process manufacturing and professionals services software for Dynamics AX were available as of yesterday via its price list. But Redmond was unable to commit to a date when the retail tech it has bought will be pushed out to customers.

"Microsoft will provide updates to customers and partners as the availability date approaches," it said. ®
