Acer Android smartphone pencilled for November launch

Mole reveals all...

Acer will unveil its first Android-based smartphone in November, according to reports coming out of Taiwan

The firm has already announced plans to launch an Android smart phone this year, but has so far only confirmed that the mystery device will appear at some point in Q4.

“Industry sources”, who revealed the November launch date to the Taiwanese tech pub DigiTimes, claimed Acer’s recent promise to launch nine smartphones in 2009 could soon see it overtake local rival Asus in the global smartphone rankings. Both are a long way from the top.

Only one of Acer's nine promised smartphones is expected to run the Google OS – the other will use Windows Mobile. ®
