Samsung has unfolded its latest R series laptop, the R720, which the firm hopes might catch the eyes of film fans and gaming geeks alike.

Samsung's R720: a germ-phobic gamer's delight?

Based around an unspecified Intel Core 2 processor, the R720’s equipped with an AMD ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 graphics chip that drives a 17.3in, 16:9 display that Samsung’s promised won’t show black bars atop and below your film.

A combo DVD re-writer is included on the machine, but a Blu-ray drive, as you might expect, is an optional extra.

Audio’s supplied through a pair of 2W speakers and dedicated sub-woofer, while virtual 5.1-channel sound is delivered when you plug in a pair of headphones.

The desktop-size keyboard has obviously been designed for those that eat while surfing, gaming or watching films because Samsung stressed that all the machine’s keys have been coated with an anti-bacterial finish.

Elsewhere on the machine you'll find an SD memory card slot, four USB ports and an integrated webcam.

Samsung’s R720 laptop will be available next month, but a price hasn’t been released yet. ®
