Our piece yesterday on Stockholm lass Sofia Englundh, prevented by the authorities from adopting the middle name "Dark Knight", prompted an email from the 19-year-old Heath Ledger fan protesting her treatment at the hands of the El Reg Bootnotes department.
To recap, Ms Englundh's pitch to the Swedish National Tax Agency, aka Skatteverket, met with a blunt nej on the grounds that "first names can be rejected if they resemble surnames". Since Sweden apparently already has a load of Mr and Mrs Knights, the Dark Knight was shown the door.
And it is on the very matter of surnames that young Sofia has lodged her protest. We said she was "evidently surnamed in honour of the famous drunken England footie fan chant".
An indignant Englundh wrote this morning: "Hey! I'm Sofia Englundh, and my surname was not named after a 'footie fan chant'... You ought to correct that..."
Nope, afraid not. Until you can provide solid evidence that your surname derives from a) a particularly malodorous form of pickled herring; b) an Abba song; or c) the name of an Ikea flat-pack wardrobe, we're sticking to our guns. Tack så mycket. ®
