Brand new Star Trek prequel pics and trailer
What on Praxis were Paramount thinking
A montage of scenes follow, showing intergalactic space battles and snapshots of the new Starship crew. The as-yet-apprehensive relationship between Spock and Kirk is brought to boiling point as the cocky captain says: "Are you afraid or aren't you?"
A steadfast Spock replies: "I will not allow you to lecture me."
Kirk hits back with a challenge: "Then why don't you stop me."
A fuming Spock lashes out at Kirk, before the scene cuts to a fiery explosion in space. In what promises to be the most action-packed Star Trek yet, the film also provides the dashing Kirk with some in-between the sheets action in a steamy sex scene with communications officer Uhura, played by Zoe Saldana.
Uhura strips off in her Enterprise quarters, unaware she is being watched by Kirk. Perv. ...mind you...
During his brief cameo in this trailer, Pegg declares: "I like this ship. This is exciting."
And for a moment we forget that Simon Pegg couldn't even do an authentic American accent in Band of Brothers and happily accept him as cheeky chappy engineer Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott.
The trailer also features glimpses of some familiar faces of the cast, including Eric Bana as Romulan villain Nero. Relative unknown Pine, who plays Kirk, has promised to show a new side to the captain and has cited Harrison Ford's Indiana portrayal as inspiration.
In a statement to the press, Pine said: "Not to say that I modelled my version of James T Kirk on anything in particular, but I think I definitely have wanted to bring that kind of Harrison Ford humour to Kirk."
Director JJ Abrams originally said he hoped to find a cameo for William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk in the original Star Trek TV series, but didn't want the script to "shove him in because that would be a disaster".
Leonard Nimoy makes a cameo as the older Spock during a scene with his human mother played by Winona Ryder
Matt Damon was originally touted as a potential Captain Kirk, but Abrams decided he was "too old" for the part. Thank God. New Zealander Karl Urban, who played Eomer in the Lord Of The Rings movies, is Leonard 'Bones' McCoy, previously played by DeForest Kelly.
Here at The Register, we're curious as to whether we will get to see Kirk beat the Kobayashi Maru no-win scenario with his...unique solution during his academy training.
Anyway, here's the trailer.
Let us know what you think. ®
