Comments on: NetApp spins second flash SSD universe

Ummm... will EMC follow suit?

Stop

"The NetApp move is a recognition that controller read caching doesn't answer every array acceleration need. Super-charging your Mercedes car makes all its journeys faster but you still need a Ferrari for particular trips. Will EMC follow suit? It hasn't done so yet but CEO Joe Tucci used to drive a Ferrari."

You do of course realize that EMC realized this many months ago... (you allude to EMC having it earlier, did you just have a massive brain fart) what exactly do you think tier 0 in a DMX is for? I'll let you in on a secret, IT'S NOT FOR READ CACHING. Also by the time NetApp says they will actually release their product I can actually order to do the exact same thing (act as a really fast HD), that SSD's will have been purchasable by EMC customers for a full year already (and the guess is that they are from the same mfg STEC).
