Ah, I see... prostitution is illegal in the land of the free... sorry, I forgot. Well, she should pay her taxes, I guess. It's a little on the brazen side to make 133K and declare none of it...

Actually, brings a new meaning to "making an honest woman of her."

Prostitution

Posted Friday 3rd October 2008 03:19 GMT

What exactly is wrong with being an escort / prostitute?

I understand that not paying taxes is a "bad thing" (but not so morally bad when said taxes are just used to bail out rich government donors) but why the fascination with the fact she did a spot of whoring for cash?

Or is the USA so backward that prostitution is illegal?

Yup!

It's all a question of scale.

Sex in exchange for $100: a night in a cell

Sex in exchange for $5000: a trial for tax evasion

Sex in exchange for half the estate of a multi-millionaire: traditional family values, elect that person president.

It is when she was being raided for tax evaision. I don't realy see what you problem is...

greedy bitch gives rich folks a bad name.

Thumb Down

I can see how you'd begrudge the taxman if you're making say 10 grand a year, who cares for investing in education and roads if you cannot keep the walls of your own hovel up.

But once you're above 20k, zero excuses; above 50k, you have to start considering it's better to pay extra much taxes, to keep the plebs from looting your home!

Prostitution is illegal in most civilized countries.

home counties

Recently in a leafy village near where i live in the UK, a six bedroom house was raided on suspicion of being a brothel. It was and various people were arrested.

The way they found out was that the lady running the place HAD PAID TAX on her 200K income.

She declared her services as the usual massage / escort stuff.

Seems you cant win.

Am I missing something?

So prostitution is illegal in the US... yet if you make a lot of money out of it, the government wants some? Surely they can't have it both ways...

So, you want to call the U.S.A. civilised? Come on, give us a reason. Aw, come on. really.

"Prostitution is illegal in most civilized countries."

Which would those be? What is described here (putting up an internet page, and making arrangements on your own behalf with an adult who saw the information) would be legal in most of Europe (I think all, but that's a lot of countries these days). There was even some fuss in Germany a couple of years ago about whether people should continue to collect unemployment benefits if they have turned down work as a prostitute, or if prostitution deserves a special status. I'm willing to believe it's illegal in most of northern Africa, but "most" implies well over half, and I'm not even sure it will make 50%. That depends on your definition of "civilized," of course.

Which countries were you thinking of?

Did anyone bother to

Prostitution is legal in some states (Nevada for one).

Al Capone

Need I remind everyone that when "Scarface" Al was eventually jailed, ending a long and fruitful career as a mob boss, it was for tax evasion.

"So prostitution is illegal in the US... yet if you make a lot of money out of it, the government wants some? Surely they can't have it both ways..."

It's the old Al Capone tactic. They can't prove, in a court of law, that she was a prostitute but they can prove that she made a lot of money without paying tax. She's (allegedly) guilty of two separate crimes, but since they can only prove one, that's the one they're going for.

if you have sex and get paid for it, but no one is watching, that's illegal...

if you have sex, get paid for it, and have a camera rolling... it's "entertainment" and even protected under the 1st amendment.

Go

Indeed - Makes me wonder how long before someone starts a chain of brothels, instead calling them "Adult Film Studios" and offering people to fund and star in their own flick...

Of course if they were funding they'd need to pay the other Actor/Actresses wages.... and the crew and facility fees too of course....

Might well be a legal alternative to a 'brothel' - it would be harder to go after them without causing problems for the adult film industry...

Happy

Have been in control in most of the states for a long time so prosty's are illegal almost everywhere (I'm not for or against...it's just another business to me...I just don't happen to buy at that store).

Re: OMG

nternet archive is your friend. You will need to guess some URLs as the pages use java-script navigation so they no longer work directly through the archive.

However, looking at that she should be sued either for false advertising or using the statutes for pimping and running a brothel (with which she as a law graduate should be familiar) with.

There are at least 3 different women on those pictures and I think I have seen one of the pictures somewhere before around the net so she probably is in the frame for copyright violation as well.

Paris, as she does all of that without a law degree and does not try to use other people's pictures to represent her (cough, cough...)
