Personally, I'd much rather they concentrated on sorting out that stupid, outdated Oracle Universal Installer contraption of theirs, in favour of a nice (semi) industry standard MSI-based install.

From day one when Oracle was known as SDL, Larry has always talked up a big chunk of BS. He always makes promises, then goes back to the heads of development and asks them to make it happen, it's like he lives 2 years ahead of himself all the time. Interesting to see what silly idea he has come up with this time, which won't work until Oracle v14!

The art of having shells of data whereby the kernel of the inner most shell is immutable data that represents the events, then each successive shell provides derivations of the data, (such as converting to cubes, and views etc, - Though these are basically limited, OLAP was such a single dimensional hack.) followed by queries written in Linq, and a whole set of other forms.

These then render a DB to support not just relational data, but also network, hierarchical, and also true object models that can be queried using the Linq.

SQL Server's already started on this road, with it's parallel server engine, single data store architecture to provide infinite scale on the back end. (Unified query solves all performance as well as all complexity problems.)

If you are still using the Universal Installer then you deserve everything you get !! Just go back to the bare bones and manually install everything, using reasonable and practical parameters for your needs instead of the defaults !!

Except oracle would prefer that you didn't use Microsoft as the OS for your server, so they don't want to make life easier for those who do, so an MSI installer is extremely unlikely.

But yes, it would make life a whole lot easier if they made installers that actually talked nicely to the user, instead of the ones that just hurl obscenities at us.
