HTC's Touch 3G: has... well... 3G

The Touch 3G and Touch Viva both use HTC’s established TouchFlo touch-sensitive UI, but while the Touch 3G – as the name suggests – enables HSDPA 3G connectivity of up to 7.2Mb/s, the Viva’s only enabled with Edge. Both support quad-band GSM too.

The two handsets run Windows Mobile 6.1 and have 2.8in 320 x 240 displays. The Touch 3G pips the Viva to the post in terms of camera quality, though, because it has 3.2-megapixel camera, whereas the Viva has a lesser two-megapixel snapper.

Micro SD memory cards are the storage option of choice on the two handsets, but data can also be moved around over Bluetooth 2.0 and through a mini USB connection.

There shouldn’t be any excuse for getting lost down a back-alley with either phone though, because the duo come equipped with Assisted GPS too.

The Touch Viva has Edge

The Touch Viva’s 480 minutes of talk time is slightly longer than the 400 minutes provided by the Touch 3G, but then the latter handset will give you 365 hours of stand-by life and the Viva only awaits orders for 270 hours.

HTC’s Touch 3G and Touch Viva will both be available in early October. Touch 3G fans can choose from four body colours, including “Sophisticated Black” and “Noble Gold”, but Viva buyers only get a “Storm Gray” option. UK pricing hasn’t been announced yet.
