Updated Christian Bale was arrested earlier today over an alleged assault on two family members in his suite at London's Dorchester Hotel on Sunday, the BBC reports.

Welsh-born Bale, in London for last night's premiere of The Dark Knight, is "alleged to have lashed out at his mother and sister". The incident was later reported to police in Hampshire, who referred it to the Metropolitan Police.

A Met spokesman said: "A 34-year-old man attended a police station in central London by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault - he currently remains in custody." ®

Update

Bale was this afternoon released on bail until September "pending further inquiries".
