What's wrong with LINX?
Outages here, outages there
Updated Last night there was another outage at the London Internet Exchange (LINX) - the second, and longest, time it has gone down in the last month.
The problem began at 18.35 last night and lasted for about an hour.
The normally reliable exchange point blamed the last outage on problems with a line card. The exchange also had problems in early May and late April. LINX traffic statistics are here.
LINX provides peering connections for UK Internet Service Providers. It is run as a not-for-profit organisation paid for by its members - UK ISPs. It also acts as a lobby group on behalf of UK ISPs.
LINX sent us the following statement: "Yesterday evening we did experience a recurrence of one of the faults from the previous week. Our engineers, working alongside those from our vendor, implemented an alternate configuration returning the affected parts of our network to full service."®
