Cam-Trax Technologies claims to have developed a “unique patented software solution” that can track any object in real-time with reliability and precision. Although very little has been said about how the software actually works, the firm has stated that all the tracking is done through a web cam.

Cam-Trax claims its software can turn any object into a PC game controller

In a promotional video, gamers are shown holding all sorts of various objects in front of a web cam, including what looks like a lump of wood. Cam-Trax’s software appears to quickly map the size and shape of each object, before allowing them to be used to control on-screen games.

Unfortunately, the software isn’t available to purchase yet.

Someone forgets they have a video chat program running at the same time as playing their game and they will be another instant YouTube star.

From the picture (can't do the vid at work) it can detect the tip of the gun, but can it tell which way its pointing? Only works if pointed straight at the camera and not at a slight angle across it.

Err......tape a Wiimote to it?

Well it seems good enough for Nintendo, who release all sorts of "new" controls devices for the Wii which basically consist of a piece of plastic with a Wiimote stuck in it somewhere.
