IBM's Zeitler retires

For real. No euphemism

Published Monday 5th May 2008 18:41 GMT

IBM is reshuffling its senior management team, following the retirement of two company warhorses.

And for once, retirement is not a euphemism for firing. Bill Zeitler, who runs IBM's hardware and chip business, and Nick Donofrio, vice president innovation and technology, have been with the company for decades and are both in their early sixties. IBMers usually retire at 60.

Their departure was announced in an internal message to IBM staffers, obtained by the Wall Street Journal, which reports that Bob Moffat, who does something with supply chains, adds the computer hardware group to his remit.

Donofrio doesn't get a direct replacement. Instead, his deputies - IBM research head John Kelly and IBM internal business transformation bod Linda Sanford - now report straight to big boss Sam Palmisano.

IBM also reshuffled some more execs today, but nothing particularly noteworthy for the casual bystander. Find out more, if you must, at the WSJ. At time of writing, entry is free. But hurry along, the shutters will soon come down. ®
