The Oregon man who was born a woman, had his breasts removed as part of a gender reassignment but retained his female reproductive organs and then got up the duff (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/03/27/transgender_pregnancy/), much to the amazement of just about everyone, will prove he's pregnant by flashing some ultrasound scan proof at Oprah Winfrey on Thursday.
Thomas Beatie, of Bend, is legally a bloke and legally married to Nancy. His missus was unable to have kids due to a hysterectomy, so cue a donated-sperm conception in dad's intact womb.
The shock news broke (http://www.advocate.com/exclusive_detail_ektid52947.asp) back in March, but some unkind souls have since suggested the whole thing's a hoax. Accordingly, the happy couple will now set the record straight on US TV.
The Oprah Winfrey Show website promises (http://www2.oprah.com/tows/pastshows/200804/tows_past_20080403.jhtml?promocode=HP51) the pair will "open up about the secret they've been hiding for months" and teases: "Thomas is 34, happily married and…pregnant. Our cameras capture it all - the ultrasound, inside the nursery and more. How is this possible?" ®
