Rear-view mirrors are usually pretty basic reflectors. However, one manufacturer's created a hi-tech version that’s incorporates satnav technology.

The DS-400GB: satnav, speaker and mirror in one

The touchscreen DS-400GB boasts an integrated GPS antenna and SiRFStar III GPS chip. Information about your location and journey is displayed on a dedicated 4in, 480 x 272 display built into the mirror.

Not that it's a true mirror - a rear-mounted camera is used to capture what’s going on behind your car’s back wheels. This video is then displayed on the larger portion of the DS-400GB's display.

An SD card slot on the mirror allows maps to be uploaded into its route-planning software. However, if music’s more your thing then the memory card can also be used to pump music out through the internal 2W speaker.

Bluetooth compatibility is included too, allowing you to pair your handset with the device and make or receive telephone calls as your drive.

The DS-400GB is currently available in China, but a European price or release date haven’t been seen yet.
