Intel has added a low-end discrete chipset to its upcoming 'Eaglelake' product line, it has emerged.

The P43 will join the P45, G45, G43, Q45 and Q43 chipsets when they're launched next quarter. An even lesser part, the G41, is scheduled to arrive in Q1 2009, sources claimed.

As its name suggests, the P43 is a cut-down P45, reducing the GDDR 3 memory clock speed from 1333MHz to 1066MHz, and omitting the P45's ability to handle two x8 PCI Express graphics cards, DigiTimes reports citing Taiwanese PC industry moles.

The P chipsets are discrete parts, the G models are integrated, and the Q line are aimed at enterprise systems - they support Intel's Advanced Management Technology (AMT), for instance.

That explains why they're priced at $44 (Q45) and $40 (Q43). Intel will also charge $40 for the P45 and G45. The P43 and G43 will cost $34. All these prices are per chipset when purchased in batches of 1000.
