Scotland Yard careers website defaced

Hot Fuzz

Regcast training : Hyper-V 3.0, VM high availability and disaster recovery

Unknown hackers defaced the Metropolitan Police's careers website over the weekend.

Digital graffiti on metpolicecareers.co.uk featured a picture of a greenish cuddly monster (vaguely resembling Sulley from Monsters Inc) and a message mocking Scotland Yard's anti-terrorism unit.

The offending message has since been purged from the site. The digital graffiti attack is of little importance, but no less embarrassing for Scotland Yard.

Netcraft reports that the site runs on a Windows 2000 platform. ®

Re: 17:01

"Just a thought, but why should it be illegal to hack a website? The hackers are doing them a big favour in demonstrating that their security is lacking."

In the same way as it should be legal to repeatedly stab someone in the face, in order to demonstrate that they need to improve their self-defence skills. If people didn't hack websites they wouldn't need security in the first place.
