Covenant energy sword added to Halo 3 replica arsenal

If we could get the Chief's MA5K carbine too...

CES If you've already got the Xbox 360 special edition console and Lego-like Master Chief figures, but you still feel like you hadn't quite satisfied your Halo habit, you need a Covenant plasma pistol, rifle... or energy sword.

Covenant energy sword: slice through your enemies with ease

The plasma pistol and rifle have actually been available since around October 2007 - at least in the US - but the newest addition to the Covenant replica arsenal is the energy sword, which made its first appearance at CES this week.

The existing plasma pistol, rifle and target

Register Hardware had a first look at the weaponry on display and we can tell you, these aren't just some flimsy, plastic toys - they've got a good weight. And when you overheat the pistol and rifle, heat exchange flaps fly open and the weapon locks up. They also recoil when you fire and feature an LED ammunition counter.

Sadly, the only thing that lets these otherwise plasma-tastic guns down is that you shoot at a target with an infrared beam, so, yeah, good fun up to a point, but you really want is some sort of 'laser tag'-style vest so you can shoot your buddies.

Pricing on the two existing handguns varies depending on the retailer and unfortunately no information or price plan was available yet on the energy sword.
