Comments on: Kylie Minogue launches social networking site

Dodgy Webpage Coding

It is rare nowadays to find a website that completly refuses to render in Opera... but that link is one. Site dies with an XML error...

"XML parsing failed: syntax error (Line: 18, Character: 55)"

Works in IE though. Are there really web designers around who only develope on IE and can't be bothered to test on other platforms? I thought that ended long ago.

And is this a "social networking site"? Or a "Flogg Kylie's back catalogue" site?

AAAAAAAAAAARGH mindless hacks!!!

Why is it that lazy journalists jump on any press release with the latest buzzwords in it? Just because the Kylie PR contains the words 'social networking', the BBC, Lester and many other reputable (!) news agencies have splurged out this story as if it's actually news.

It's a website. With a message board. You can set up a profile. Just like millions of other websites! It doesn't mean it's anything revelatory.

'Pop singer has website' might be news in 1997, but not 2007. And have you even looked at the website? It's pretty pants. It's no more 'social networking' or 'web 2.0' than this site.

Not that I have anything against Kylie, I hasten to add, having thoroughly enjoyed her live warbling and gyrating twice in recent years.

Sounds like...

narcissistic validation to me...

What's the matter kylie don't have any facebook friends?

Obviously this is a poor attempt at marketing her music, which is poptastic apparently, although I don't subscribe to the same kinds of musical taste as 13 year old girls and boys the world over.

No tour = no cash?

Paris Hilton

As many artistes now admit that touring brings in more dosh than recording is this an attempt to keep the fans happy until a tour is sorted?

Or is it a desperate attempt to keep in the eye/ear of the public to prop up a dwindling audience.

Ah, a quick look at the site shows it looks to be a sort of replacement for the tour to promote the new album. Plenty of older stuff to download and buy. The message board is full of the usual 'come and look at my site' stuff, only one seems to have grasped the full meaning of the Kylie experience. "I understand Kylie is a singer. I however remember her most from weekday lunchtimes bunking off school in neighbours. She has a very nice bottom"
