Student taser victim spared electric chair

Don't kick me out of university, bro!

Florida prosecutors have decided not to pursue Andrew "don't tase me, bro" Meyer through the courts if he keeps his nose clean during 18 months probation.

Meyer caused a farcical kerfuffle at a University of Florida speech by John Kerry last month. He scored 50,000 volts and internet infamy for his trouble.

He'll soon be allowed to resume his studies. Campus cops had recommended he be sent to the big house for resisting arrest with violence.

The shouty conspiracy nut was tasered by police after he overran his alloted question time by berating the Democrat Senator for rumoured membership of Yale's secretive Skull and Bones society. Meyer's plea of "don't tase me, bro" was quickly seized upon by YouTubers, creating a brief phenomenon, including this piece of MC Hammer-powered waggery:

The telecoms student is now on sabbatical for the rest of the semester "because of the publicity". He's issued a public mea culpa, Associated Press reports.

Meyer wrote: "I stepped out of line at the Kerry forum. I violated the rules of the forum and was disruptive."

"I am a far more reasoned individual than I was a short while ago, and the reasoned response of the university has helped me a great deal." Evidence, if it were ever needed, that electric shock therapy is effective.

An enquiry into the incident found that the police used appropriate force. ®
