Chip monster Intel is upping its guidance for the third quarter - the day arch-rival AMD launches its Barcelona chip.
Better than expected sales means Intel now expects to make revenues of between $9.4bn and $9.8bn compared to previous predictions of between $9.0bn and $9.4bn.
Intel expects margins to be on the high side - about 52 per cent give or take a couple of points. All other estimates are unchanged.
Intel will report its official figures 16 October 2007. The company warns that its move to 45nm production, pricing pressure, government action or other events could undermine the increase.
