Updated: O2 has provided a site (http://www.my-xda.com/xdaOrbitSoftware.html) where owners of the Xda Orbit can upgrade their device to Windows Mobile 6 (WM6) - at least they could if it worked.
Punters attempting to get the upgrade, which has been available in Germany for some time, are told the HTC server is overloaded and they should try again later. However, it's been saying that since yesterday afternoon, much to the frustration of Orbit users (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320249).
Those contacting O2 were told the site shouldn't have gone up yet and will be removed soon to return in a week or two. Apparently, WM6 is still in testing on the Orbit, though as new Orbits have it installed it's presumably the upgrade process that's still under test.
HTC has apparently received no OK from O2 to start sending out upgrades.
HTC and O2 have not yet returned our calls. ®
HTC has been in touch to assure us that it was all O2s fault, but they'll have the download working tomorrow (Wednesday). O2, meanwhile, have admitted that the link shouldn't be up, and tell us they're having it removed right now: presumably just in time to prevent anyone downloading the upgrade in the morning.
