Tesco beefs up under 20 quid software offering
Sausages: check, milk: check, word-processing app: check
Tesco is upping the ante in the software market by widening the availability of its own-brand applications off the back of what it described as a hugely successful initial roll-out.
According to reports, the supermarket giant is to begin selling it six software titles, which were developed by Formjet, in 200 more stores across the UK from today.
Tesco said it had flogged 25,000 titles in 150 stores since the software's debut in October last year.
White label software developer Formjet, which also provided retail rival Woolworths with a similar low-cost range, provided Tesco with the application packages.
Its titles include a complete office suite, two anti-virus products and a photo editing tool for school and home users, all of which will retail under £20.
Tesco also said it will include the titles in a buy-one-get-one-free promotion during the back-to-school period.
Tesco buyer Daniel Cook said in a statement:
"We're delighted that the range has proved such a hit, and in response to this demand we're increasing the total number of stores where customers can pick up the popular software." ®
