DSG hires Tesco man as new chief exec

Plans afoot to improve firm's online empire

Retail giant DSG has poached Tesco's operations development boss John Browett who is to join the firm as its new group chief executive.

He will fill the hole left by John Clare who announced last week that he will be retiring in September after 22 years with the retailer, which owns Currys and PC World.

Browett was previously CEO of Tesco.com where he helped grow the online arm of the supermarket's business.

DSG is hoping Browett can use his experience to successfully punt the firm's online presence in the consumer market.

Speaking about his new job, Browett said: "We have some great opportunities ahead that will build on the strong positions that have been established within the UK, internationally, and on the internet."

DSG chairman Sir John Collins said: "His involvement in creating Tesco's online operations and more recently in driving improved customer experience and operational efficiencies will ensure that DSG international can continue to capitalise on our strengths for the benefit of our customers, employees, and shareholders."

The firm is currently trading at 166.50p per share on the London Stock Exchange, up 1.03 per cent on the previous close. ®
