Comments on: Red Hat chief tells start ups to grow, not cash out

Getting to escape velocity is increasingly hard...

Pretty much all the services successes in the 90s were focused on the 'web-enabling' and 'migration' space, and with that space now crawling with IT services vendors (domestic and overseas), the growth opportunities, while definitely present, are more difficult for a startup to tap. With all the big IT behemoths working on broadening their offerings to be the 'vendor of choice' for the enterprise customers, it is very difficult for a point-product vendor to avoid the 'tractor-beam' of an exit (just like Red Hat and JBoss!).
