Velocity Micro buys Overdrive PC

Overclocking in the USA

Velocity Micro, the US PC maker, has acquired Overdrive PC, a small Georgia-based rival which specialises in highly overclocked PCs for the gaming market. Terms are undisclosed.

Velocity is moving all of Overdrive's staff into its the Richmond, VA headquarters. Numbers are undisclosed again, so we assume that there aren't many involved, But the company is retaining Overdrive as a separate brand.

This makes sense, as Overdrive has established a price premium for its kit, which, Velocity says, represents "the very last word in overclocked performance, with literally weeks of work and preparation included in every system".

Now for a quote from Randy Copeland, Velocity Micro president and CEO: "This partnership enables Velocity Micro to infuse Overdrive methods into Velocity PCs, giving us another performance advantage and improving our brand position even further. It will increase Velocity Micro’s market share in the high-end PC enthusiast segment, while giving us a stronger offering in our traditional upper mainstream channels. We want to be the single source for any performance enthusiast, and this acquisition strengthens our entire offering more than ever."
