Comments on: Happy Pi Day

Indeed, a notable day

It's not only Pi day, look up March 14th in google for details...

Why Pi approximation day?

Posted Wednesday 14th March 2007 16:46 GMT

Why can't Europeans have Pi day on 3rd January at 4:15?

Because

Posted Wednesday 14th March 2007 17:32 GMT

in Europe, most people are in bed at 4:15! Our day starts at midnight, so we work from 09:00-17:00 ..... not 21:00 to 05:00 as in the USA.

Favourite Pi Song

Posted Wednesday 14th March 2007 18:56 GMT

My favourite Pi song is "3.14", as sung by the enigmatic Gabriela Robin on Seatbelt's "Cowboy Bebop O.S.T. Future Blues." Only just over 50 digits, but a pretty song none-the-less. I haven't verified the accuracy.

A Limerick for Pi Day

This contribution, from Alex, was emailed to me. I thought it deserved a wider airing:

Happy Pi day to our US brethren! This calls for a limerick:

'Tis a favourite pastime of mine

A new value of pi to assign.

I would fix it at three

for it's simpler, you see,

Than 3.14159.'

You missed the Real Celebration

And this - from John Madden.

"I'm afraid, you all missed the real celebration of pi - the celebrations of 2000 & pi years of the Gregorian calendar.

So important was this celebration, that a website in its honour remains to this day.

So visit http://www.csn.ul.ie/~mel/pi/ and be informed of the pi celebration you all missed!"

After the approximation comes the accurate one...

And then when the real world reaches July 22nd, we can celebrate all over again.

You may regard me as ab-surd, and fractionally improper, but at least it's the more accurate :-) version.

Future celebrations

I look forward to the PI day celebrations in 2015, as surely they will eclipse all done to date.

3/14/15 - perhaps the official celebrations could begin at 9am :p

Don’t Miss
