StyleTap has expanded its Palm-emulation software to include Windows Mobile devices lacking a touch screen, utilising the four-way rocker to emulate on-screen clicks.
Palm OS advocates still cite the breadth and quantity of software available for the platform as its principle advantage, though as development for that platform grinds to a halt that argument is less convincing each day.
StyleTap (http://styletap.com/index.php) has long been undermining the application-range argument by providing software which enables Palm OS applications to run on Windows Mobile devices, an ability it has now extended to devices without a touch screen.
This ability will appeal to two markets - companies stuck with a legacy application which only works on Palm OS, and enthusiasts interested in running a specific piece of Palm OS software. But for the majority of people, paying $50 to be able to run Palm OS applications is of little interest, even if there are 30,000 of them. No sign of the promised Symbian version as yet: which is a shame as there's no Go for Symbian, and as an enthusiast I'd happily pay $50 for a decent game of Go. ®
