Asus is preparing to ship its Lamborghini VX1 laptop in the US in a limited "Golden Edition" even as it gears up to release a pair of gamer-oriented laptops, if a series of allegedly leaked publicity shots are to be believed.

The gaming machines are dubbed the G1P and G2P, according to a forum post [1] apparently made by the head of US Asus reseller ProPortable. Specification details are scarce, but the pics show some interesting gamer-friendly touches, including highlighted W, A, S and D keys for all you first-person shooter fans out there, and a 'glowing eye' backlit decal below the trackpad.

Coloured trim - green on the G1P, red on the G2P - gives the machines a Dell XPS feel, and could be a subtle indicator of the graphics chips each laptop contains. They'll be offered with suitably coloured and branded backpacks and mice.

It's suggested the G1P and G2P may ultimately ship as 'Santa Rosa' Centrino Duo machines in the spring of 2007. The Golden Edition VX1 is expected sooner, and its specification is a little better known: 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo T7400, 2GB of 667MHz DDR 2, 160GB 5,400rpm hard drive, Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 VX graphics and a 15.1in widescreen display.

Finally, there's the S7Fm, an 11in widescreen ultra-portable with a built-in 1.3 megapixel webcam and an external optical drive. ®
