WSA Battling supermodel Naomi Campbell narrowly avoided becoming the subject of an international dragnet yesterday after failing to show at a New York court on a charge of assaulting her housekeeper with a mobile phone.
According to Yahoo!, Manhattan Criminal Court Judge James Gibbon issued a bench warrant for Campbell's arrest, but later suspended it upon learning that Ms Campbell's absence had been explained to the prosecutor.
Specifically, "defense attorney David Breitbart told Gibbon the prosecutor knew Campbell was going to be absent and had agreed not to seek her arrest". Accordingly, the judge agreed to stay the warrant until Campbell's next scheduled appearence before the beak on 15 November.
Breitbart told the press outside the court that Campbell's absence was "not related to work". The feisty Streatham clotheshorse last week landed in Australia on a "private engagement" and gave the Downunder press the "don't you know who I am?" treatment, viz: "Fuck off" and "Respect my privacy". ®
