Midwich rebounds onto NEC distie list

AV distributor Midwich has stuck two fingers up to Acer after signing to sell PCs by rival maker, NEC.

Midwich split with the Taiwanese PC maker Acer last year following "unsavoury stock commitments and low attainable margins," the distributor said in a statement.

Lee Baker, Divisional Manager, at Midwich said in a statement that striking a deal to sell PC's made by Japanese manufacturer NEC, "more than compensates for the loss of Acer".

"NEC Computers' products are not over distributed, so resellers can retain margin, and the brand has a D.O.A policy and an attractive one or three year warranty option",” read Baker's statement.

In the same statement, Mike Tonkin, sales director NEC Computers in the UK and Nordics, said one or two things about how important it was to be nice to resellers.

“"We are consolidating our focus on the Channel," he said, we suspect, in tongues.

As Midwich already sells NEC projectors, said Baker, the distie had come up with the radical idea of bundling the two lines together. So you get some sort of deal if you buy a printer and a PC together.®
