Nokia 8800 Sirocco to blow in next month

A mighty wind

Nokia will next month ship an enhanced version of its Nokia 8800 luxury slider phone, upping the handset's camera to two megapixels and re-naming its the 8800 Sirocco.

Like its predecessor, the wind-themed 8800 sports a 208 x 208, 262,144-colour display, 64MB of Flash memory, tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE cellular radio, Bluetooth with wireless stereo audio, MP3 ringtones and a digital music player.

As before, the Sirocco's battery provides up to eight days' operation in stand-by mode and up to three hours' talk time.

The big change is the camera: the original 8800 could only take snaps containing 500,000 pixels. The new model also boasts a redesigned keyboard and navigator control.

According to Carphone Warehouse, the 8800 Sirocco will ship in September. There's no word yet on pricing, but the since the current 8800 retails for around £450 unlocked and SIM-free, we'd expect the 8800 Sirocco to be at least that. ®
