Phishing frauds target adult webcam site

iFoes

Phishing conmen have cast their nets wider in an attempt to dupe users of an adult webcam site.

Instead of attempting to trick online banking customers into handing over sensitive personal information, the latest phishing scam focuses on iFriends, an online videochat community which claims to have more than two million registered users. Many of the video chatrooms hosted by iFriends are adult-themed.

Phishing emails attempt to prompt recipients into updating their account information at iFriends. The email, predictably enough, links to a bogus website that attempts to con potential marks into handing over personal details including credit card numbers and even their ATM PIN code.

"Internet surfers need to learn that phishers don't just target bankers, but anyone who interacts with online companies," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at net security firm Sophos. ®
