Dell will extend its support for AMD processors to notebook machines in early to mid-Q4, it has been claimed. The line-up will encompass 15.4in and 17in models based on Turion 64 X2, Mobile Sempron and Mobile Athlon 64 CPUs.

So say sources close to Taiwan's contract manufacturer community, cited [1] by DigiTimes. Quanta, they claim, will make the 15.4in machines.

Dell announced AMD-based server products in May [2] this year. Since then the rumour mill has been spinning furiously with allegations that AMD-equipped desktops are on the way too, in September it's said. The notebook launches will complete AMD's spread across Dell's PC product lines.

Last month, investment house Merrill Lynch forecast [3] AMD-based Dell notebooks in Q4, produced by Quanta. The desktops, it said, would "likely" come from Mitac. ®
