EMC gets ProActiv(ity)

Business process software buy

EMC has bought ProActivity Software Solutions Ltd, a privately held business software firm for an undisclosed amount.

Headquartered in Massachusetts, with R&D labs in Israel, ProActivity specialises in what is called business analysis optimisation. Apparently, its software is really good at generating flow charts on the fly.

EMC President Dave DeWalt said: "ProActivity brings to EMC a critical content management technology set to augment and enhance EMC’s ability to address these needs through the industry-leading EMC Documentum business process management (BPM) software suite."

The storage monster said the acquisition will not affect its financial forecasts, which recently precipitated a stock tumble on Wall Street

The move fits in with EMC's shift towards providing more and more enterprise software to its customers to expand its revenue streams. In the last three years the company has made 20 acquisitions.
