Kodak's online picture sharing service has been fined for promoting its product using junk mail.
Two million messages, sent on behalf of Kodak Imaging Network (formerly Ofoto), failed to include a valid-opt mechanism or a valid physical postal address, as required by law among other violations of the US CAN-SPAM Act.
US regulators at the Federal Trade Commission fined Kodak Imaging Network, the same amount it made from the proceeds of the offending spam campaign. The settlement between the FTC and Kodak Imaging Network prohibits future violations of the CAN-SPAM Act.
The firm also agreed to establish record-keeping and reporting provisions that will allow the agency to monitor compliance with its order. ®
