BT has unveiled a computer security service that remotely checks the status of PCs using a broadband line. Typically, a test takes around half an hour and checks a range of potential online threats, including spyware and other known vulnerabilities.
PC Security Check is aimed at small businesses and costs £50 (excluding VAT) for the first PC then £25 (excluding VAT) for each additional machine.
With more and more SMEs trading online BT reckons this service will provide "real peace of mind".
Another firm targeting SMEs is Skype which is trying to tempt small business users to hook up to its VoIP service. Last week it launched Skype for Business, which is aimed at SMEs with up to 10 workers.
According to the eBay-owned internet telephony outfit, 30 per cent of its 75m users regularly use the service already for business, so it seems to makes sense to tailor a product for SMEs.
As well as internet calls, the new service includes new tools and hardware just for SMEs as well as a website dedicated to business support. ®
