GoldenPalace.com has added to its world-class roster of tat by snapping up William Shatner's kidney stone for $25k (£14k). Shatner will donate the cash to housing charity Habitat for Humanity, the BBC reports.
The 74-year-old actor said: "This takes organ donors to a new height, or to a new low, maybe. How much is a piece of me worth?" Well, Captain, let's see. According to the going market rate, set by GoldenPalace.com, we reckon one of your kidney stones goes out for about $25k (£14k) or thereabouts.
Originally, though, GoldenPalace.com offered Kirk a mere $15k for the stone, but Jim boldly turned 'em down, noting that his Star Trek tunics had sold for more than $100,000 (£56,634).
As is the local custom, the online gambling outfit's big cheese, Richard Rowe, offered the tasty soundbite "This is a bold new addition to our fleet" - referring to GoldenPalace's total world monopoly on Virgin Marys in toasted cheese sandwiches (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/11/23/cheese_sarnie_ebay/) and women with corporate logos tattooed (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/07/01/casino_tattoos_womans_face/) on their faces. ®
