Even despite the doubts

The UK is on the verge of achieving a "breakthrough" in LLU as the number of unbundled lines passes 200,000 and the proportion of cock-ups falls.

According to the latest update from the Telecoms Adjudicator, there are now some 210,000 LLU lines in the UK, with numbers growing at a rate "significantly greater" that the 5,000 a week reported in December.

At the same time, BT, Openreach and operators have managed to nail down the LLU process sufficiently, so that nine out of 10 lines that are migrated are done correctly at the first attempt without any hitches.

And with ISPs lining up to migrate lines in bulk, there's growing confidence that LLU is about to take-off in the UK.

The Telecoms Adjudicator said today: "We have reached a major milestone at 210,000 lines; we have come a long way and I would like to express my thanks to BT Wholesale, Openreach, Ofcom, the LLUOs and, of course, my own team.

"We are close to achieving a breakthrough that many doubted would happen. I remain confident that the industry has the opportunity to deliver a very significant market based on LLU." ®
