The Empty Child wows UK viewers

Britain's TV viewers have voted a clip from the Christopher Ecclestone incarnation of Doctor Who as the top TV moment of 2005, UK tabloid The Mirror reports. The behind-the-sofa moment - featuring a suitably spinechilled Doctor and Rose confronted by a ghostly lad haunting Blitz-ravaged London in The Empty Child - will appear on the BBC 1's 2005 TV Moments on New Year's Eve.

The Beeb divided the year into six two-month slots, and ran a website poll to find the tastiest morsels in each. The good Doctor won May/June, but the rest of the laureates make depressing reading indeed.

'Tashed-up racing pundit John McCririck romped home in Jan/Feb for his Celebrity Big Brother Diet Coke rant. Mar/Apr went to comic Catherine Tate while football-playing baby elephants scored in Jul/Aug. Phil and Grant Mitchell growling their way back into Eastenders took Sep/Oct by storm. And finally, a less-than-convincing Dennis Taylor Paso Doble in Strictly Come Dancing clomped his way to the podium in Nov/Dec. ®
