One event he turned up to was the "launch" of the $100 laptop by Nicholas Negroponte. Despite having managed more column inches about the laptop this year than anything but the Iraq war, Negroponte admitted he still didn't have a single contract for the device. The press did their best to ignore a thick cable and a suspicious-looking box underneath the desk when the laptop prototype was "run".
