Telewest has increased the speed of its broadband network in Scotland to 10 meg as part of a planned service upgrade.
Some 40,000 punters in Motherwell, Dumbarton, Castlecary and Uddingston are the first to get the upgrade, announced by the cableco in August. A further 100,000 lucky people in London are due to see their service boosted to 10 meg by the end of the month.
In a statement announcing the upgrade, Telewest boss Eric Tveter said: "We're committed to rolling out these significant speed increases to all of our blueyonder internet customers by early next year."
Elsewhere, UK Online - the broadband ISP from LLU outfit EasyNet - has cut the cost of its unbundled 1 meg service to £9.99 a month. The cost of its 2 meg broadband service has also been reduced and is now £14.99 a month. ®
