Spot the black helicopter, win t-shirt

Reg throws down Google gauntlet

Competition Our recent spate of Google Earth and Google Maps probes - highlighting how the firm's tasty satellite imagery is threatening all decent Christian, democratic values with its hi-res imagery of military hardware - has provoked a mini-airburst of reader activity.

In fact, so great have been the number of recommendations for Israeli nuclear installations, Russian trailer-launched nukes and US stealth aircraft that we have decided to run a small competition to find the best that Google has to offer.

It's pretty simple: scour the Earth's surface for the unusual, the provocative and the proscribed and send us the results, either as a Google url or a grab if poss (keep the file size plausible, thanks). Include as much background information as possible, if you have it.

Warning: Black helicoptersWe'll compile the results and award the best 20 entries a magnificent Cash'n'Carrion Black Helicopter t-shirt in recognition of the winners' contribution to the collapse of Western civilisation.

It doesn't necessarily have to be military stuff: more of Adolf Hitler's US hideouts would be welcome, as would hi-res imagery of nudist beaches or Steve Ballmer throwing furniture.

Before getting busy, though, you're advised to read our previous pieces on Google (see related stories below), because we have some good stuff already covered - like Area 51, for instance.

What's more, our own Lester Haines has said he will award a Rockall Times t-shirt to the first person to get a decent satellite image (from any source) of the sacred islet of Rockall. It's pretty small, so he reckons the chances are slim, unless the Russkies did indeed contemplate setting up a base there and so have reconnaissance images lying about somewhere.

Challenging stuff, and plenty to keep you busy until the deadline of 5pm UK time, Friday 30th September. Email your entries to Lester right here and be sure to mark the subject "Google competition". Results will be announced as soon as our photo interpretation bureau has sifted through the entries.

And to get you fired up, here's a nice picture of some US aircraft carriers, courtesy of reader Mike Plunkett who can consider this an official entry to the compo. Happy hunting. ®
