Glitch hits MS Patch Tuesday

Combat fraud and increase customer satisfaction

A glitch with IE updates available through Microsoft's Download Centre interrupted the smooth passage of Redmond's monthly patch express on Tuesday. The updates available on Microsoft Update and Windows Update were not affected and are installing properly but the files posted for manual download became corrupted. As a result their digital signature became broken and the patches failed to load properly.

"We've identified the problem, removed the affected updates from the Download Center and will repost them shortly to correct the issue," Microsoft techies said in a posting acknowledging the glitch in its IE blog. The cumulative update hit by the snafu was one of three critical patches posted by Microsoft this week as part of a total of six security updates. ®
