Intel cut the prices of its Celeron D desktop processor line-up this weekend, knocking up to 13.6 per cent of the price of each part.

The chip giant also formally added last week's Pentium M 780 and 778 mobile processors to its price list, prompting price cuts to the existing Pentium M family, and to the Centrino bundles that incorporate them.

The Celeron D price cuts were applied across the series, to both LGA-775 and MPGA-478 incarnations - only the 478-pin Celeron D 320 saw its price remain the same.

Intel introduced four Centrino bundles based on the 780, with variants based on either the 915GM or 915PM chipset, and either the 2200BG or 2915ABG Wi-Fi adaptor. Prices run from $696 to $702.

Likewise, it added four bundles based on the low-voltage 778, priced from $343 to $349.

Centrino bundles based on older Pentium Ms, models 735 through to 770 inclusive, saw their prices cut by 30.8 per cent. The prices of Centrino bundles based on slower Pentium Ms, and on low-voltage and ultra-low voltage CPUs were not reduced.

Individually, Pentium M prices fell by up to 33.6 per cent, with only the 725 and 730's prices remaining unchanged.

The arrival of the Celeron M 380 at 1.6GHz and $134, pushed down the prices of other Celeron Ms, by up to 20.2 per cent. ®
