Security firm CyberGuard has bought the anti-spam, anti-virus and URL filtering business of Zix Corporation for $3.6m in cash. The deal - announced Monday, 14 March and approved by the boards of directors of the two companies - will see Zix's Web Inspector and Message Inspector products moved over to CyberGuard's portfolio.
The acquisition will give CyberGuard the opportunity to sell its Webwasher products to Zix's 1,600 enterprise customers and gives it a stronger presence in North America. CyberGuard, which is based in Boca Raton, Florida (AKA the world capital of spam), expects the deal to add to its earnings beginning in the quarter starting 1 April 2005. ®
