A Scottish man has been jailed for two years after pleading guilty to a "cybersex" session with a 13 year-old girl. Neil Ross, 31, of Dennistoun in Glasgow, will also be placed on the sex offenders' register following his conviction of lewd and libidinous behaviour.

The father of two was sentenced under "extended sentencing" regulations. Ross was warned he risked another five years in prison if he offends again. Early reports suggest the case is the first to involving a sexual offence against someone in a different room to go before Scottish courts.

Sheriff David Mackie of Alloa Sheriff Court told Ross: "Because of the gravity of the offence I have come to the conclusion that the only appropriate way to deal with you is by a custodial sentence. It is a matter of concern to me that you may not appreciate the gravity of the offence."

The BBC reports (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4205497.stm) that Ross meet the unnamed girl in an internet chat room. He lied about his age, claiming he was 19, to gain her confidence prior to engaging in sex sessions over a live weblink. ®
