BT has added BT Mobile business subscribers to the list of customers to whom it is offering Wi-Fi access for a pound a month.
There's a catch, of course: it's a marketing promotion aimed at attracting businesses to BT Mobile. The deal applies only to companies signing up before 31 December 2004, and only lasts for three months after sign-up. Then, the standard £5-a-month tariff. Buyers must commit to a 12-month contract, though they can cancel within the initial three-month period. Both rates include 500 minutes' access.
Hotspot coverage included in the deal extends from BT's own Openzone network through The Cloud and T-Mobile to around 20,000 sites worldwide, courtesy of roaming arrangements with Singapore's StarHub, Malaysia's maxis, Japan's NTT Com, T-Mobile, Australia's Telstra and Telecom Italia. International roaming with these sites comes at no extra cost until the end of the 2004, but all of them have reserved the right (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/11/11/wifi_roaming_pact/) to start imposing a roaming fee next year.
This deal is already open to BT Broadband, BT Business Broadband and BT Yahoo! Broadband customers, the telco said. It offered the £1-a-month trial to broadband users earlier this month (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/11/01/bt_wifi_quid/). ®
