Intel follows Centrino price cuts with 2.1GHz Pentium M

Intel has added a 2.1GHz processor to its Pentium M line, the company said today, rolling out the chip as a standalone part and with the usual Centrino bundle.

The Pentium M 765 is fabbed at 90nm, contains 2MB of L2 cache and runs over a 400MHz frontside bus. There's no support for Intel's Execute Disable Bit technology, the chip maker's answer to similar 'no execute' systems from AMD, Transmeta et al, but that's not expected to appear until Q1 2005 with newer Pentium Ms supporting 'Centrino 2's' 533MHz FSB.

The launch of the new part comes just days after Intel slashed the prices of its current range of Pentium M and Celeron M processors, and Centrino bundles.

The 765 costs $637 a processor when ordered in batches of 1000. It is available immediately, Intel said. ®
