Datatec International - the global arm of South Africa-based Datatec - has acquired UK-based telecoms analysts Analysys for £12.8m.

As part of the deal a new company called Analysys Mason Group (AMG) is to be created combining Analysys and Datatec's existing telecoms consultancy, Mason Group Limited.

According to the blurb, the formation of the new company will "significantly enhance the group's ability to remain at the forefront of fundamental shifts in technology". Which is nice.

Said Datatec chief exec, Jens Montanana: "Telcos, IT and media companies are increasingly seeking guidance and support on how best to balance investment returns with a real competitive advantage. Forming AMG will ensure that Datatec stays at the forefront of addressing this need."

The new group will employ some 300 employees in five countries. Together, both companies are expected to generate more than £33m in revenues this year.

And although the the companies will "share centralised structural services and [can] expect to achieve both costs savings and synergistic accretive business over time", El Reg has been assured this isn't management speak for job losses. ®
